No Sleep 'til Lisbon

A quickish post to report that we have made it to Lisbon, but that's about it. The flight last night was delayed and we didn't leave Boston until just after midnight (four of the almost six waiting hours spent after the airport bars closed). The outrageous extra $900 for a first class seat seemed to almost be worth it after a cramped and uncomfortable kinda-dozing-on-and-off-but-never-actually-sleeping night over the Atlantic Ocean.

Lisbon is a HUGE city with many neighborhoods spread out over a really large area. We are spending the next five days in an AirBnB in the Santa Cruz neighborhood which is a modernish mixture of older apartment buildings (like ours), newer high rise apartments and commercial buildings. We're north of the oldest part of the city and its historic waterfront, so are going to explore getting around on the many modes of transportation including buses, a metro, trams, and several funiculars (can't wait to try THOSE!)

We managed to stop by the conference HQ at Nova University to get checked in, walk around our neighborhood to see what's nearby, and enjoy some excellent cheese on our little roof deck before the jetlag kicked in. It was in the mid 60s today but felt much more balmy than mid-60s at home!

Notice clementine juice spritzers to get hydrated!

Nova University campus looking very Mediterranean

Trying an Indian restaurant two doors down for dinner tonight because that's about as far as we can manage to go. Stay tuned tomorrow for a refreshed and ready to explore blogger !
